Sounds Of Silence - FeminIndigenization
(A collaboration of music composed from my poetry)
Wednesday, June 21st, 2017 at 6:30 pm at Burdock in Toronto on National Indigenous Day:
The Toronto Creative Music Lab presents two pieces from The Sounds of Silence Initiative, a project that initially brought together 15 composers, 15 poets, and 15 singers. These new performance pieces tell the story of a diverse Canadian cultural identity. While the composers and singers are students at the University of Toronto, the poets are all members of underrepresented and often repressed communities in the Greater Toronto Area. This project will give a platform on which the diverse voices of Indigenous, immigrant, and LGBT communities can be heard.

DATE: Friday, March 10th, 2017 at 7:30 pm at Father Madden Hall - St. Michael's College, 100 St Joseph St, Toronto, ON M5S 1J4.
The Sounds of Silence has brought together 15 composers and 15 poets to collaborate and create 15 new performance pieces - 9 of which will be showcased at this event. While all the composers are students from U of T's Faculty of Music, the poets are members of GTA communities that are often considered under-represented and/or repressed. The poets involved in the project identify with Indigenous, queer, immigrant, and Black communities (with varying degrees of intersectionality). The goal of the project is to give a platform on which their voices can be shared while promoting collaboration and discourse. Please join us on March 10th at Father Madden Hall to celebrate these diverse literary and musical voices.
